Seasonal or permanent?
Two ways to light a house
Most installers offer one or both. Here is what each involves and what homeowners are reported to pay nationally.
Seasonal installation
The installer designs the display, supplies the lights (often on a lease), hangs them in the fall and takes them down after the holidays. Many store them for next year.

Permanent lighting
An LED track mounted under the eaves stays up all year, nearly invisible by day, and changes colour from an app – Christmas, game days, the Fourth of July.

Six questions worth asking any installer
Buy or lease?
Are the lights yours to keep, or leased for the season? Leasing is common and usually includes replacement bulbs.
Takedown and storage
Is removal in January included in the price, and will they store the lights until next year?
How it attaches
Ask how lights are fixed to gutters and shingles. Clips are standard; nails and staples can damage the roof.
Insurance
Ladder work on a roofline carries real risk. Ask whether they carry liability insurance and cover their crew.
Service calls
If a strand goes dark on December 20th, will they come back to fix it, and is that included?
Timing
When will they install, when will they turn the lights on, and when do they take them down?

Is this directory free to use?
Yes. Browsing the directory and asking for quotes costs homeowners nothing. Installers can be listed free as well; some pay for a labelled Featured or City Spotlight placement, which is how the site is funded.
How do you decide which installers are listed?
We list businesses whose own website says they install outdoor Christmas or holiday lights in that city or its metro, and we check each one on that website before it goes live. Listings appear alphabetically. They are not a ranking, and paid placements are always labelled.
How much does outdoor Christmas light installation cost?
Angi puts the national average at about $444, with most homeowners paying $220 to $684 (updated May 2026). Larger homes, full packages with trees and windows, and custom designs cost more. Ask two or three local installers for a quote on your house.
When should I book Christmas light installation?
As early as you can. The installation season is short and many installers start hanging lights in October and November, so asking for quotes in September or October gives you the widest choice of dates.
What is the difference between seasonal and permanent lights?
Seasonal lights are hung before the holidays and taken down afterwards, often with the installer supplying and storing them. Permanent lighting is an LED track fixed under the eaves that stays up all year and changes colour from an app, so it works for every holiday.
