What Christmas light installation includes

A professional installer handles the whole job: they measure the roofline and plan the design, supply commercial-grade lights, hang them from a ladder or lift using clips rather than nails, and come back if a section goes dark. After the holidays they take everything down, and many store the lights until next year.

Some installers sell you the lights outright. Many lease them for the season, which keeps the upfront cost down and usually includes replacements. Either way, ask what is in the price before you compare quotes.

Seasonal or permanent lighting?

Seasonal lights go up in the fall and come down in January. Permanent lighting is an LED track fixed under the eaves that stays up all year and changes colour from an app. HomeGuide reports permanent lighting at $20 to $40 per linear foot (2026) – a bigger one-off cost that replaces the yearly install.
